John Vereen, a proud native of Pasadena, Maryland, is a dynamic leader whose life reflects a deep commitment to service, innovation, creativity, and human-centered advocacy. His journey began with a strong foundation in discipline and teamwork, forged during his years at the United States Naval Academy, where he earned a degree in Quantitative Economics and served as a three-year starter on the Midshipmen football team. These formative experiences instilled in him the values of resilience, honor, and excellence—principles that have guided him through a multifaceted career across military, corporate, creative, and community landscapes.

Commissioned as a Surface Warfare Officer, John served 7.5 years in the United States Navy. Among his many achievements, he notably piloted the first U.S. naval vessel to return to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, since the Vietnam War, an act of historical significance and symbolic reconciliation that underscores his dedication to fostering understanding and connection on a global scale.

Following his military service, John brought his leadership and problem-solving expertise to the private sector, taking on key roles in logistics, manufacturing, and automation. As a Factory Automation Sales Engineer for six years, he covered Mississippi, Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle, becoming a subject matter expert in Machine Vision systems—advanced technologies that simulate human vision to improve quality, efficiency, and safety in manufacturing. His work supported major companies like Mercedes Benz, Hyundai, and Toyota, where he helped implement innovative solutions that enhanced operational performance.

John’s professional reach also extends deeply into the arts and community development. As Gallery Manager for the Joe Minter is Here exhibit, he supported the preservation and celebration of important cultural narratives through visual art. He is also the creator and co-host of the Griot and Beatnik Open Mic series, which ran from December 2023 to January 2024, offering a vibrant platform for poetry and spoken word artists to share their voices and connect through storytelling and expression.

A passionate advocate for education and inclusion, John serves on the Board of Directors for The Literacy Council, supporting adult education and literacy initiatives that empower individuals and transform communities. In the real estate industry, he brings his values-driven leadership to RealtySouth, where he currently works as a full-time Realtor and chairs the DEI Belonging Council while also serving on the Diversity and Fair Housing Committee.

At the heart of John’s work is a mission to uplift others and build a more mindful, connected world. As the founder of the Human Efficiency Optimization (HEO) consultancy, he promotes a framework that helps individuals and organizations align with core values such as Kindness, Love, Integrity, Respect, and Peace. This philosophy—HEO mindfulness—challenges inefficiencies rooted in division and ego, inviting people to optimize common ground in how they relate, collaborate, and lead.

John is also a proud and devoted father. His 16-year-old son, who is autistic and nonverbal, inspires his advocacy for neurodiversity and the creation of inclusive spaces. His 12-year-old daughter, an aspiring creative and entrepreneur, fuels his vision for a future where young people can thrive in alignment with their passions and potential.

Whether in boardrooms, creative spaces, or community forums, John Vereen leads with intention, purpose, and compassion. His legacy is one of bridging worlds, military and civilian, technical and artistic, corporate and communal, to build systems that are more humane, equitable, and inspired.
